Ask
You do not have, because you do not ask…James 4:2
When God begins to do a new work, we too play a critical role in His ultimate plan. How much enjoyment of God’s presence and experience of his power for mission are we missing out on because we do not ask God for them? Now I am not talking about things, because as we grow in our relationship with God we should understand that God does not exist to make us physically fat, but spiritually strong. As we strive to accumulate wealth and prosperity, we often become consumed with goals and next steps. But are you asking for God’s presence to be with you on this journey so that we are not distracted from a connection with God?
First thing is to keep praying. In order to maintain the directness that God has set forth you must continue to pray. How much enjoyment of God’s presence and experience of his power for mission are we missing out on because we do not pray?
Place all your plans before God and ask for His presence to be with you as you move. Pray that you will be governed by the Holy Spirit in all that you do so that in the end your hands will prosper according to His will.
When Jesus encouraged us “always to pray and not lose heart” (Luke 18:1), he wasn’t telling us to do something that he himself didn’t need to do. Jesus knew from his own human experience that he needed to ask his Father for everything, to ask him in faith, and at times to persevere in prayer until the breakthrough came. Jesus prayed always and he prayed “with loud cries and tears.”
Do not lose heart; do not give up; pray, even with loud cries and tears, until God grants the breakthrough you seek.
