Stand Firm, Part II
But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the royal rations of food and wine; so he asked the palace master to allow him not to defile himself. Daniel 1:8
As followers of Jesus, we will find contention from hostile spiritual enemies looking to redirect us and discourage us from trusting in God. On our quest to the ‘Promise Land’ we will face all sorts of giants, fortified cities and strongholds, waiting to be overcome and taken. Many of those strongholds are within our own hearts and lives – places in our thinking and believing that are yet to come under the Lordship of Jesus. Yet still the Lord encourages us to stand firm and continue marching on to claim the promises that we know to be true.
Jude, writing his letter to believers in the New Testament wrote, ‘Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints’ (Jude 3).
The Lord encourages each of us to press on, step by step, towards ‘the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus’, and, like Joshua, we too have His promise that He will be with us as we do. Step by step, keep moving forward. Little by little, you will gain some ground and with every prayer you’ll be spiritually recharged.
Prayer for today: Thank you, Lord, for Your promises. Please help me to hold on to every place of victory and promise You’ve given me, and please help me to press on until I see You face to face. In Your name, I pray. Amen.
