Monday Morning Manna
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
Yesterday Rev. Dr. Orville Harris encouraged us – no matter the season we should praise God. Speaking from Psalm 27: 1-6, 14, Dr. Harris shared we ought to Praise in the Dark Time, his sermon aimed to encourage us to find hope in God at all times.
Psalms 27 opens up with a declaration. Verse 1 the author states who God is ‘The Lord my light and salvation’. Then the Psalmist moves to ‘whom shall I fear?’ giving a positive affirmation to where he stands. Then he goes onto saying ‘the Lord is the strength of my life’ asking the question ‘of whom shall I be afraid?’ If the Lord is not your light and your salvation then you are living in darkness and fear. Today as we are facing these uncertain times the questions remains, whom shall I fear?
We can all agree that this current season of life is a dark time. Yet still God is good and worthy to be praised. Praise is a powerful weapon, it takes your eyes off your current circumstances and refocuses them on God. Gratitude overflows from a heart that brings to remembrance all the benefits of knowing and belonging to God. A grateful heart not only praises God for what He does but also for who He is.
Dr. Harris word was simple and encouraging. In this world we will have trials – expect them – but don’t let these trails distract us or inhibit you from praising God. Yes the virus is real and should cause us to change our social behavior. But let not this virus seems as if it is somehow above God and out of His control. God is still sitting on the throne. God is good. God is worthy. A heart that knows this is overflowing with praise. Let all that I am praise the Lord.
