Speak of Hope
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns! Isaiah 52:7
“Go Tell it in the Mountain” is a well-known Christmas song, but not always discussed is its origins. This famous Christmas carol does not have European origins, thus making it unique. It’s a song that was passed down orally from one plantation to the other. Through this, hope was birthed in the hearts of those who sang it. With this song the receiver just knew that a message of hope was being sent. How encouraging is this? They knew that the news of the birth of the Messiah, which brings great joy to every nation, tribe, people and language.
This Christmas season do not keep this Good News to yourself. As the song writer encourages us, go! Join the invitation to “go tell it on the mountain” so that everyone can hear the good news that Jesus Christ is born for all.
