One Meal A Day
Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. Matthew 13:3
In Matthew 13 we find Jesus explaining The Parable of the Sower. A farmer went out to sow seeds and the seeds scattered in different places: on a path, on rocky ground, among thorns, and in good soil. The seeds were all the same, it was the soil in which they fell that were different. In explaining this parable Jesus says ‘… this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself but endures only for a while’ (Matthew 13:20-21). This sounds like us when we’re not consistently drawing nourishment from the Word – we’re shallowly rooted, weak and easily wither. But Jesus goes on to say, ‘But he who received the seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.’ (Matthew 13:23) There’s something about receiving nourishment from the Word of God that soothes the soul.
Do not take for granted your personal devotional time with God. We wouldn’t eat just once a week or have someone feed us every day. We must take rightful responsibility for ourselves and regularly dwelling on His Word. As we drink from the Word of God, then we grow in the strength He gives, the strength of His love that lifts us up to fly in the freedom and walk in the victory Jesus won at Calvary.
Prayer for today: Father God, thank You that Your Word truly is living and active, and that it is freely available to me. Please help me to feed on the Scriptures and the precious truth they contain of who You are and who I am as Your child. Amen.
