Where is your faith?
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
What are you wishing for today? Do we wish that things would be different in our lives? Or someone else’s life? Or wish we had something more, or were somewhere else, or that something would go away? I wish … I wish … Some cross their fingers. Some cry out in distress. But to what avail? Wishing doesn’t do anything or change anything. It’s basically just a strong emotion all centered on you – I wish, I want, I need.
But, hope, now that is much deeper. God tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 saying “I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.” Hope has an element of possibility. Hope holds together something deeper than two fingers twined together for a good luck wish. Hope involves the soul. It’s a strong desire with an expectation that it is reachable. Hope and aspiration are what many people build their lives upon. It’s scriptural. ‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him’ (Romans 15:13). Jesus is our hope. ‘Christ in you, the hope of glory’ Colossians 1:27). As the old hymn says: ’Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.’
The real question is, “Where do we place our faith?” Our faith must be in God. As we place our complete confidence in God and live as much as we can within His principles, we can depend on His faithfulness and mercy.
When Jesus touches someone with His love you can see the light of hope that comes into their eyes, as their spirit responds to His love. There’s great comfort in God’s hope, whatever troubles we face. Trust in God and the power of the Holy Spirit. His power within us causes us to know things for certain. ‘This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil’ (Hebrews 6:18).
