God, Our Refuge and Strength

God, Our Refuge and Strength
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
We all share the need to feel safe. When we don’t feel safe, we stop growing. Instead, we put all our energy into managing fear and protecting ourselves.
History books have shown us that ancient cities protected their citizens by building large surrounding walls, which created a fortress that kept chaos out. The walls’ constant presence in people’s lives created a safe atmosphere where communities could thrive.
Just as a fortress brought peace to a city, God is our fortress and brings peace to our souls in the midst of the chaos happening around us.
The mountains may move, but the Lord God never changes. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever more. God remains a mighty fortress that we can run into and feel safe. Over and over the psalms of David assure us that, if we trust in the faithfulness of God, we’ll have nothing to fear. I recommend reading the whole of Psalm 46 and finding yourself lost in the promises of assurance we find in God.
If God is the same all the time, we can stand on His faithfulness. We can look to Him when everything’s moving and shifting. We can anchor on Him no matter the outcome of tomorrow’s election.
I hope you will lift your eyes to Him and know His strength.
