What next?
I praise you because you are to be feared; all you do is strange and wonderful. I know it with all my heart. Psalm 139:14
It was a hard year. Heart-breakin’ hard. There is no doubt this is what many would say about 2020. But what do you do when you lose everything? How can you go on when it seems like life is falling apart? We live in a wonderful world, there is no doubt about that, but eventually like the Psalmist we will go through the valleys. We will be cast down from the mountain top. There is no way to avoid these pitfalls in life. However, there is one thing we can do when we are faced with them and that is to lift our voice and sing unto the Lord.
Consider the lyrics again penned by Horatio G. Spafford when his world fell apart. It says:
When peace like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well, with my soul
It is well
With my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul
Hard times can destroy us all causing the ship to sway. But, at the end of the day, it’s not about our faith; it’s about God’s faithfulness. Psalm 139 and Romans 8 are not for the faint-hearted. They are tried and tested words of life. “If I ascend to the heights you are there. If I descend to the depths you are there also. If I cover myself with darkness, you are there, because with you, O God, darkness is as light.” Do you believe it?
