Our Father
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Matthew 6:13
Matthew 6 is a frequently used passage in the life of the believer. When we pray the Lord’s Prayer, we are reminded that it’s not about us, it’s about God. When we pray “Our Father in Heaven,” it is as if Jesus is praying with us, joining us in praying to his Heavenly Father, who through Jesus is now our Heavenly Father, too. But this ending can be viewed as a prayer to Jesus: “For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, now and forever. Amen.” Jesus, after all, is the king. His is the power and the glory.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the ultimate demonstration of God’s glory and majesty, and God’s victory over the forces of evil. We acknowledge the power of the resurrection when we sing, “Because he lives, I can face tomorrow.”
Jesus is the king who died for us. We have been redeemed by the blood of the lamb. His is the kingdom, the power, and the glory. Now and always.
