A Song of Praise
He taught me to sing a new song, a song of praise to our God. Psalm 40:3
It doesn’t matter where you are in life music is one thing that brings it all together. In the midst of all that is happening do not forget your song of praise.
I love music and one of the wonderful things about it is that, when you know a tune, it goes with you wherever you are – it’s in your head. And, wherever David made his home, there was a song in his head: God’s laws.
Music made David feel secure, however scary his circumstances might have seemed. Yes, he trusted God to keep him safe, but he also knew that it is obedience that keeps a person in God’s place of safety. That’s why God’s laws had a permanent place in his heart and why they were such a delight to him. As we still sometimes sing: ‘Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey’.
‘Happy are those who trust the Lord…You have done many things for us, O Lord our God; there is no one like you! You have made many wonderful plans for us. I could never speak of them all—their number is so great!’ Psalm 40:4-5
With the psalmist, we too can say, ‘Bless the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name, … forget not all His benefits. He forgives all my sins’.
