A Correct Signal – Part 1
Fix your thoughts on what is true and honourable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8
Satellite dishes have become a very familiar sight as it is used all around the world to receive satellite communication, be it visual, audio or data.
The satellite dish is designed to receive these signals. Today there are numerous satellites floating in space transmitting many thousands of signals, beaming them down at the earth. While the purposes of these signals are varied, some good and some not so good, the function of the satellite remains the same it transmits.
As the signals are passed from the dish, electronic circuitry filters out the unwanted signals and enables the television to display the program of our choice. Like satellite dishes we are capable of receiving ‘messages’ from all around us, via our eyes, our ears and our spirits. Many messages are ‘beamed’ at us every day from one source or another – from what we watch, what we listen to, what we read, and who we talk to. Not all these messages are good or helpful to us.
For this reason Paul admonished the church to keep focus. We need to be able to ‘filter out’ those messages that are not helpful and concentrate on those which are. We need not to just take in everything that comes our way. We must be able to set up a TSA in our mind and filter all incoming messages.
As we develop a closer relationship with the Lord and grow to know Him better and become more familiar with His Word and seek the gift of discernment, we shall be more able to identify those things which are pleasing to Him and those which are not.
Prayer for today: Dear Lord, please help me to know You and Your Word better, so that I may know what does and does not please You. Help me to be more discerning in what I allow my mind to focus on. Help me to become more secure in You so that other people can clearly see more of You in me. Amen.
