Sink or swim
I was pushed hard, so that I was falling, but the Lord helped me. Psalm 118:13
There are times in all our lives when God allows us to get into a situation that is beyond our control to fix. And at this moment, we will need to decide if you are going to sink or swim. Will you trust in God arise above the waters swimming to His outstretched hands, or will you stand still and sink in doubt?
Many times, throughout God’s Word we find His people in situations where only God could help them. We too can identify with such a feeling, faced with circumstances that we know only God can help us. In Psalm 118, the psalmist recounts the times when he was beyond human help and, were it not for God’s intervention, he would have been overwhelmed and overcome. He would have been defeated – BUT GOD! But God shows up on the scene and takes charge.
The psalmist says, “I was falling, but Jehovah helped me” (YLT version). We too can identify with this feeling. There are times when we find ourselves in situations where there is only one thing to do – and that is trust God and discover yet again, “but the Lord helped me . . . The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!”
Today let us give thanks to the Lord for He is good! Proclaim goodness and receive His peace. Praise encourages the spirit and lifts the soul. And then, in the words that conclude the psalm, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
Prayer for today: Loving Father, my heart is filled with praise and adoration for You. My heart is full of gratitude to You. Help me, Lord, to trust You even more when all around seems to be falling apart. Help me to know that I can swim in what seems like sinking sand, knowing that You are able to do over and above anything that we can think or dream of! Thank You, Lord. Amen.
