Beauty from the Ground Up
Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. John 12:25
At the end of May where there is more sunlight in the sky the grass and the trees begin to blossom. I like to believe that God has given us the beauty of nature to appreciate the care He has for us, His children. It is with thankfulness to the Lord, when I behold all the encouragement He has woven into the natural world. When we appreciate the trees and see what was once dead come to life, we can appreciate the difficult times in our lives and know that what seems lost now will too come to life.
For there are times in our lives when tragedy strikes and it can seem as if all is lost, and yet, as God’s creation witnesses to us, if we trust Him through those times, giving Him our pain and losses, He really does hold fast to His promises and give back His ‘beauty for our ashes … ‘the oil of joy for mourning, a garment of praise for a spirit of despair’ (Isaiah 61:3).
But dying to self is a scriptural principle. As our verse for today declares, and God’s creation bears witness, as the whole plant dies, God brings forth His new life, He bestows beauty for ashes.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, thank You for all the wonderful reminders of Your handiwork. Today I choose to trust in You despite what I can see, for I know that You are the Potter and I am the clay. I believe in Your ability to make all things new. Amen
