God Delivers
But when the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for them: Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left-handed man. Judges 3:15
In the book of Judges, we see a common theme threaded throughout – God delivers. When Israel was under the oppressive rule of Eglon the king of Moab and they called on God to save them. Through Ehud God delivered the people in a fascinating, if rather unpleasant, way. Ehud a nobody, in their sight, was given immediate access to give the king a “secret message”. Ehud’s “secret message” was the sword that he brought and the “special delivery” was a stab to the stomach of the grossly-overweight king who killed him! Then Ehud quietly and possibly just as smoothly as he entered, walked away. When Ehud returned to the people of Israel, he led Israel in conquering their enemies the Moabites.
Ehud must have been an extremely courageous and brave man to walk right into enemy territory alone, with a sword hidden on him. It was a crazy thing to do, but for the fact that God was with him. We too can be encouraged to know that God is with us and can accomplish that which He has promised to do in our lives.
