Way Maker
Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. Matthew 7:24-25
In 2016 Hurricane Matthew struck southwestern Haiti leaving widespread damage in the impoverished nation. Thankfully many survived to tell the tale of heroism during this challenging time.
Not all of us will have to face physical storms of this magnitude. But Jesus said that we would all face the storms of life (Matthew 7:25–27). Life is not easy. These storms are many and varied. Thankfully we have their story of trials and triumphs to refer to when we are facing the trials of life.
During the storms of life, it is natural to panic (certainly, I tend to), but we are to be reminded that God is our way maker. Jesus tells them that the response to storms should be trust and that you should not be afraid. We must believe that our God, the Way Maker, is quite capable of calming the storm. Even in the midst of a storm such as a global pandemic we must purpose in our mind to choose faith over fear.
Prayer for today: Lord, thank you that in all the storms of life I can cry out, ‘Lord, save us.’ Help me to trust you and not to be afraid. Amen
