God Keeps Watch
But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in You. Psalm 56:3
Imagine a world in which car brakes only worked half the time. That wouldn’t be safe at all. We would be terrified at every intersection. God is infinitely more reliable than the finest car on the market, but we don’t treat Him that way. We often are on the fence between fear and faith. We seem to forget that when we are connected to God, then we can ride out any storm this world has to offer. When it comes to fear, I’ve been immensely helped by Scripture, God’s very breathed-out Word that reveals who He is. In Psalm 56:3, King David writes, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” Not if, but when, David says.
Psalm 56:3 helps us because fighting our fears isn’t a one-and-done act, but a continual practice. Daily we must place our trust in God and allow Him to direct our paths. Trusting God does not mean our fears vanish, it means we know where — and to whom — to go with them. Again and again.
As we continue to live in this New Year with all its uncertainties, we can sometimes fear what is going to happen to us next. But the above verse tells us what to do when this happens, we place our trust in God knowing that the Lord is keeping watch over the path of the godly.
If you are going through a difficult time right now and it seems like the enemy is roaring like a lion, know that the Lord has him under His control, and he cannot harm you when you are seeking to be godly and walk with Jesus through the ups and downs of your daily life.
Prayer for today: Loving Father, I thank You for the way You are always watching me, and I can call on You any time, and in any place, when I find myself in any sort of difficulty. Thank You for always being present, wherever I am. God, remove the evil influences that is making me fearful. Help me to renew my mind with Your word and fill my heart with Your love. Please help me not to fear, but to trust in Your protection. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
