Happy Thanksgiving

But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.” Psalm 50:23

Today’s verse from Psalm 50 tells us that our thanksgiving honors God, particularly when it is a sacrifice for us. The rest of the verse goes on to say that as we sacrifice thankful offerings, it prepares the way for God to show us His salvation. Salvation for the believer involves much more than just the moment we are born again and are saved from sin and death (vital though that is) – it is also about the ongoing work of healing and sanctification that Jesus wants to do in our lives once we have believed. As we offer thanks to God He is able to show us more of the inheritance that He has for us.

We are told in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 to ‘give thanks in all circumstances’ – which means that in the midst of whatever storms we may be going through, we should still give thanks to God for who He is and what He has done for us.

Why not start to thank Him now!

Thanksgiving Day Prayer

Heavenly Father, on Thanksgiving Day

We bow our hearts to You and pray.

We give You thanks for all You’ve done

Especially for the gift of Jesus, Your Son.

For beauty in nature, Your glory we see

For joy and health, friends and family,

For daily provision, Your mercy, and care

These are the blessings You graciously share.

So today we offer this response of praise

With a promise to follow You all of our days.
