This is honesty
O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? Psalm 13:1
These are the words uttered by David, in his long-lasting tiredness. He cried out to the Lord saying: “O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand?” (Psalm 13:1-2)
Do you ever feel like that in your life and the circumstances you’re walking through? How long, God? Father, I don’t mind holding on but, I need to know when is it going to stop? Or to look around the world and see evil and injustice and just say, how long? When is it going to stop? You get weary. O Lord, how long? And then to follow up even asking, will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long will it seem like you’re not there?
This is honesty. These are real emotions. Because in this sin-sick world, these are real emotions, these are real questions. A cry. Verse three, “Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die.” I’m looking to you. I need your help. And then you get to verses five and six where the Psalmist says, “But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.”
What a reversal. What a transformation. This is the song of faith amidst the questions of this world to look to the Lord and say, but I trust in you. I trust in your love, I rejoice in your salvation and I sing to you. Why? Verse six, “Because You have been good to me.”
The Psalm gives hope in God in every hardship in life. However much struggle we bear and obstacles we face, God has a way to save us if we, if we are faithful in Him. Our prayer will keep us live in faith and diligently. We shall pray to God saying, “Consider and hear me…” for He shall hear our prayer and respond to our spiritual needs.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father forgive I pray for those who are reading this today. I pray for those who trust is hard to come by. Help them at this moment to continue trusting in You even on days when it feels like you are far away. Amen
