Living Sacrifice
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And to not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2
Throughout our lives, we will all be required to sacrifice something. We sacrifice time to build relationships that are important to us. We sacrifice our money to invest in a greater good. We sacrifice our personal time and energy to serve others who may be unable to serve themselves. Ultimately, sacrifice is one of the greatest ways to show love. Sometimes in life we must get out of our comfort zone and do what isn’t normal in order to make a meaningful change.
Generally nobody likes change. Some things have taken a long time to get where they are and so we don’t want to let it go. With change there is a certain cost involved. And sometimes we just aren’t willing to pay the price for change. The way things are might be comfortable and who wants to be uncomfortable? The way things are is normal and who wants to be abnormal? Who wants to be the odd ball standing out?
The Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 12 that we are not to be conformed to this world. We are not to conform but transform. We are on this journey with our Lord and Savior leading the way.
Growth cannot take place if we remain the same.
