Knowing God
That the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:17
Helpful books have been written on the subject of knowing God. In each of these writings there is one central truth – God really does desire us to know Him intimately and permanently. The Bible makes it clear that knowing about God is quite different to knowing Him. Knowledge is in the head and intimacy is in the heart.
So how can I get to know God? The things on the mind of God can be found in the Word of God. So it is important that we read His Word to discover His mind. Then we will know without a shadow of doubt that our breakthrough is not found in man, cannot be hindered by man but has already been signed, sealed, delivered in the Mind of God.
Knowing God involves knowing His attributes, His character and His ways so that we know Him for who He is, not simply for the self-centered belief that He is there for me. Trust is the basis for a true relationship with God, shorn of ulterior motives. He is to be loved and obeyed for Himself, not for what I can get out of it. I am saved for His glory, kingdom purposes and not for my own gratification. Knowing this truth allows you to get out of yourself and understand better God’s unconditional love.
We often can’t see with our natural eyes what God has planned. But when we have the heart of God and the eyes of faith, we can find complete trust in God.
