Overwhelming Joy
Tears of joy will stream down their faces, and I will lead them home with great care. Jeremiah 31:9
On any given day our soul can ache from the effects of others, of indwelling sin, and our heart grieves in our weakness. It is true – some days can be much more difficult than others. Life is not always easy when we choose to live God’s way of life. Hebrews 11 provides many examples of great servants of God who had to suffer because of their faithfulness. But through it all God promises to be with us. God promises that the trials that often come from living God’s way of life will ultimately be rewarded by overwhelming joy. This psalm is echoed by the words of Jesus Christ: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” (Matthew 5:4). These are tears of joy.
The seasons change, the winds howl and the storms of trial come and go in our lives. But there is one thing which remains the same – God.
In the seas of trial, so many thoughts and feelings crash, collide, and careen through our heads and our hearts. Where is our energy, our strength, our youthful zeal – it is in Christ!
Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. Isaiah 40:4
Prayer for today: Dearest Father, although I may not understand your move in my life I do recognize with each experience I am given the opportunity to praise You. Please give me the courage to surrender all into Your loving hands and enable me to learn to trust You more. In Jesus’ name I ask it, Amen.
