Chosen Treasure
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. 1 Peter 2:9
I enjoy watching documentaries on television. Aerial America on Smithsonian Channel is one of my newer favorites on a Saturday morning. Wide open spaces and the beauty of nature is always a pleasure to watch. One day I was watching a documentary about Kentucky and learning all about the horses used for the Kentucky Derby, I realized how powerful a horse truly is. They are beautiful creatures, muscles rippling as they run, or in this case are trained to run. But there are some horses which never make it to the news headlines. I thought about the two types of horse. The one beautiful, strong, cared for daily, and the other horse working in the field every day, not free at all, limited to a small area for his whole life. One of the two horses benefits mankind, it’s the horse, sentenced to a life of hard work, rather than the good looking, free agent who does what he wants to do.
Some horses are truly in the limelight – their owners are well known, and they win many important races. Much money is to be gain from this race. Then we turn our attention to the hard-working farm horse. Every day it’s out in the fields. Like the race horse, this horse works nonstop, but not a day goes by without some benefit to the farmer. The produce will benefit the local food market. The farm horse won’t be known by others, except to the farmer, but he’s very valuable to the greater community.
While some make it to be the fame horse most believers are like the farm horse. Working day after day in the vineyard of the Lord, sometimes tired, not noticed, not famous, but producing a greater substance for those starving for the truth.
Whatever place you find yourself in today, fame or farm horse, do it all for the glory of God. In the end, the Lord will assess what we’ve done to bring glory to His name. Serve faithfully day in and day out leaving the result in His hands.
Prayer for today: Dear Lord, I understand the world needs to know You. My desire is to share the good news of the Gospel. Help me to use whatever talents I have to reach others for You. Let me not grow weary in doing so. Amen.
