{"id":637,"date":"2020-12-04T01:07:19","date_gmt":"2020-12-04T01:07:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cornerstonecem.org\/blog\/?p=637"},"modified":"2020-11-30T00:08:24","modified_gmt":"2020-11-30T00:08:24","slug":"advent-gods-promises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cornerstonecem.org\/blog\/advent-gods-promises\/","title":{"rendered":"Advent \u2013 God\u2019s Promises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>Friday, December 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Advent \u2013 God\u2019s Promises <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I want you to remember what the holy prophets said long ago and what our Lord and Savior commanded through your apostles. <strong>2 Peter 3:2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Scripture tells us \u201cThe Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness . . . .\u201d For most of my life the adjective \u201cslow\u201d was not one I wanted applied to me. \u201cSlow\u201d was a synonym for being stupid, unproductive, or late as in missing something important. We can all identify with this feeling, wanting to be (or at least perceived to be) smart, efficient, up-to-date, and aware of whatever was important to be, know, or do. But I\u2019d like to suggest that there is a particular challenge to the Christian faith that has gotten more and more difficult as the centuries have passed along. It\u2019s the challenge that is the subject of this morning\u2019s passage from 2 Peter. It\u2019s one that we share in common with our early brothers and sisters in Christ; but one that is\u2014I think\u2014a harder challenge for us today than it was for them in their time.<\/p>\n<p>This passage tells us God risks appearing to be \u201cslow\u201d about Jesus\u2019 promise to return soon because God wants to give us extra time to get ready and be prepared. It\u2019s been a \u2018hope\u2019 and an \u2018expectation\u2019 for two-thousand years now!
