He lost everything in a matter of hours. He had every reason to look at all his circumstances and think it would be OK to blame God and even, as his wife suggested, “curse God and die” (Job 2:9). Job was going through the toughest time of his life when he spoke the words in Job 19. There is no doubt Job had a reason to be bitter. Instead what we read is Job finding his praise. Yet, throughout his suffering, he remained “blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” (Job 2:3).

The story of Job ends in great victory. All was removed but God also restored. Last Friday I encouraged you to use your praise. Praise makes the enemy flee. It pushes back the darkness that surrounds, and blocks the attacks and hissing lies over us.

It was out of the depths of his pain that Job spoke these words of praise – “I know that my redeemer lives.” He was talking about an event that would take place hundreds of years later, at a place called Calvary and which, today, we can appreciate. Jesus lives!

It is the One who has overcome death that invites us to receive Him as our Savior and make Him Lord of our lives. So, in the midst of personal, national and, even, international trauma and crisis, as believers we have an amazing message to declare to a very hurting world – Jesus Lives. He has conquered death and that whatever difficulties we are having to walk through, Job’s declaration holds good for each of us who know the Lord – for the whole of time and eternity.

During the times of national insecurity the church remains secure.
