And to this day it is said, ‘On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.’ Genesis 22:14

This week we have been learning that we can build our lives with confidence because God is the Builder, Jesus is our firm foundation, and God never changes. But there is another truth we need to carry with us as we build, the truth that God is enough. The song Jireh by Maverick City Music and Elevation Worship reminds us of one of the most powerful names we see in Scripture: Jehovah Jireh, the Lord Will Provide. That name comes from a powerful moment in the life of Abraham. God had asked Abraham to trust Him with something that was incredibly difficult. Abraham obeyed even though he could not see how the situation would end. But at the moment when Abraham needed provision, God provided a ram. Abraham called God “The Lord Will Provide” before he could see everything that God would provide in his future. He learned that God’s provision does not always come before the journey begins.

Sometimes we discover God’s provision along the way. That can be difficult for us because we want to know everything ahead of time. We want to know how the bill will be paid. How the opportunity will come. How the relationship will work out. How the dream will happen. How the door will open. All the while God is stretching out His hand asking “Do you trust me?” And that is where faith begins. We don’t have to know how God will provide in order to believe that He can provide. We don’t have to see the answer before we trust the One who holds the answer. Faith says, “I will trust God with what I cannot control.” This doesn’t mean we ignore reality or stop being responsible. It means we refuse to allow uncertainty to become greater than our confidence in God. We can work hard and still trust God. We can plan and still trust God. We can save, prepare, and make wise decisions while remembering that our ultimate provider is not our paycheck, our career, our abilities, or another person. Our source is God!

So today, don’t let tomorrow steal the peace God has given you today. Look back and remember Jehovah Jireh, my provider. His grace is sufficient. You only need to know the Provider and recognize that He is enough.

Prayer for Today: Lord Jesus, thank You for being my Provider. Sometimes I look at my circumstances and become afraid because I don’t know where the answer will come from. I don’t know how everything will work out, and sometimes I allow that uncertainty to fill my heart with worry. Today, I choose to remember who You are. You are Jehovah Jireh. You are the God who provides. When fear tells me that I don’t have enough, remind me that You are enough. You are enough for today. You will be enough for tomorrow. And You will always be enough. Amen

Thursday, September 24 God Will Provide So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide.
