The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:24-25

Yesterday, we were reminded that unless the Lord builds the house, we labor in vain. Today, we go one step deeper to understand why, you see, if God is going to build our lives, then we must make sure that our lives are built on the right foundation. The song Firm Foundation (He Won’t) by Cody Carnes captures this truth beautifully. It speaks to those seasons when everything around us feels uncertain, unstable, or shaken but God remains steady.

There are times in life when everything seems to be going well, and it is easy to feel secure. Our job is stable, our relationships are good, our finances are manageable, our plans are working, and we feel like we have everything under control. But then life happens. One email, one text, or even a phone call changes everything. A relationship ends. A door closes. A financial situation shifts. A dream doesn’t work out. A diagnosis comes. Someone we love walks away. Or sometimes, there is simply a season when we don’t understand what God is doing. These are the moments that reveal what our lives are really built on.

This is something we need to understand: having God as our foundation does not mean we will never experience difficulty. It means that when difficulty comes, we don’t have to be destroyed by it. Sometimes we think faith means God will prevent every storm. But Scripture shows us something deeper. Faith means that when the storm comes, God will still be there. We need God because we are not strong enough to be our own foundation. When everything around us is shifting, He remains steady.

The foundation doesn’t promise that the house won’t shake. It promises that the house won’t fall. That is why we need God, not simply when we are in trouble, but every day. Build your future by trusting His direction and when the storms come, and we know they will, hold on to the One who does not move. The storm may shake you, but it does not have to break you because your foundation is not your circumstances. Your foundation is Christ.

And He won’t fail!

Prayer for Today: Lord Jesus, I recognize that I cannot build my life on my own strength. Everything around me can change, but You remain the same. Forgive me for the times I have placed my confidence in things that cannot sustain me. Help me to build my life completely upon You and Your Word. When storms come, remind me that I don’t have to be afraid. When circumstances change, remind me that You have not changed. When I feel weak, remind me that You are my strength. When I don’t understand what You are doing, help me trust that You are still working. Help me not only to hear Your Word, but to put it into practice. Build my life upon the Rock so that when the winds blow and the storms come, I will remain standing only because I am set in You.
