Friends may abandon us. People we love may walk away. Sometimes those we have gone out of our way for turn around and treat us wrong. Even those we thought would always stand by our side may leave us in our midnight hour. People can change. Circumstances can change. Relationships can change. There may be moments when we feel forgotten, rejected, or completely alone. But oh, what a friend we have in Jesus! What a comforting thought to know that we have a Friend who will never abandon us. When everyone else walks away, Jesus remains. When others don&#8217;t understand what we&#8217;re going through, Jesus understands. When our hearts are broken and we don&#8217;t know where to turn, Jesus is still there.<\/p>\n<p>The hymn asks a powerful question: \u201c<em>Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?\u201d<\/em> The answer is yes. Life brings difficulties. We experience loss, disappointment, uncertainty, temptation, and burdens that sometimes feel too heavy to carry. Sometimes the people we expected to be there for us are not there. Sometimes we find ourselves walking through a midnight season, wondering who we can trust. But the hymn reminds us that we don&#8217;t have to walk through those moments alone.<\/p>\n<p>Peter tells us to \u201c<em>Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.\u201d<\/em> Notice the word all. Not just the big problems. Not just the things we think are important enough to bring to God. All of them! Jesus is the Friend who stays when others leave. He is the Friend who listens when no one else understands. He is the Friend who carries us when we don&#8217;t have the strength to keep going. Do you know Jesus that way as a friend you can turn to and confide in? Someone who accepts you, has compassion for you and gives you wise counsel?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Today, take some time to pray about something that has been troubling you, trusting Jesus as your friend who cares for you. Share this practice with someone who may need encouragement.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prayer for today<\/strong>: \u00a0<em>Dear Jesus, thank You for being our friend and for bearing our burdens. As we sing &#8220;What a Friend We Have in Jesus,&#8221; help us to bring all our worries and cares to You in prayer. Thank You for the peace and comfort that come from knowing You.
