There comes a time in each of our lives when we must choose to let go and let God to stop striving for control and start surrendering to His will.

Second Samuel 11:3 begins with a simple but powerful phrase: “David sent and inquired…” That one decision set a series of events into motion. King David, one of the greatest rulers in history, found himself in one of the greatest failures of his life. Instead of going to battle as he should have, he stayed behind. Instead of resisting temptation, he pursued it. Instead of confessing his sin, he tried to cover it up.

Mess #1: David committed adultery with Bathsheba.

Mess #2: He orchestrated the death of her husband, Uriah.

What began as a private decision became a public disaster. Second Samuel 11:17 tells us that other innocent men died as a result of David’s attempt to “fix” what he had broken. When we step outside of God’s purpose and try to write our own plans, the consequences often reach further than we ever intended.

In this year of purpose, perhaps the lesson is this:

Stop trying to manage the mess alone. Surrender it.

God specializes in turning messes into messages. The very thing you regret may become the testimony someone else needs. The chapter that brought you shame may become the platform where God displays His grace.

Prayer for today: Father, I know that even in my mess, You are able. Help me to surrender what I’ve tried to control.
