Who may stand in his holy place? Psalm 24:3

Psalm 24 takes us from creation to confrontation. We’re no longer standing in awe of what He made; we’re now faced with a question: Who is worthy to approach this King? The psalmist asks, “Who may climb the mountain of the Lord?” Who may stand in His holy place? The answer is sobering: only the one with clean hands and a pure heart. That’s not just about physical actions, but also about motives, desires, and internal righteousness. Not only must our hands be clean, our hearts must be undivided. No hidden idols. No false allegiances. No duplicity. If we’re honest, this feels disqualifying. But, God. He made a way out through His Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.

We want to climb that mountain. We want to stand in the holy place. But who among us can truly claim clean hands and a pure heart? We are people of fleshly desires and wandering affections. We struggle with hidden sins, selfish ambition, impatience, fear, pride, and divided loyalty. We may look good on the outside, but God sees the heart.

Jesus is the miracle of the gospel: The One who is worthy ascended the hill for us.

Jesus, He is the only man with truly clean hands and a perfectly pure heart. Jesus is the only person who ever fully met God’s standard chose to trade His righteousness for our sin. His blood made the way for the unclean to be cleansed. His purity is now ours through faith.

We don’t approach God by our merit. We come by mercy.

So today, don’t shrink back in shame, but don’t rush forward in pride either. Come humbly. Come honestly. Come by the blood of the Lamb, the King of Glory who went before you.

Let Him search your heart. Confess what needs to be confessed. Surrender what needs to be surrendered. And then, with reverence and joy, walk with your King.

Prayer for today: Holy God, You are perfect in righteousness and brilliant in holiness. And I confess today that my hands are not always clean, and my heart is not always pure. I have trusted in lesser things. I have given my attention to idols, both intentionally and unintentionally. I have spoken carelessly and lived distracted. But I thank You, Jesus, that You walked the hill I couldn’t climb. You lived the life I couldn’t live, and You died the death I deserved. Because of You, I can approach the Father. Because of You, I can stand in the holy place not in fear, but in grace. Cleanse me today, Lord. Make me more like You. Let Your Spirit refine me, shape me, and prepare me to walk more closely with You this week. Thank You, King of Glory, for making me worthy. Not because of me but because of You. Amen.

Tuesday, October 14 Who May Ascend the Mountain of the Lord? Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?
