When the psalmist says, “He makes me lie down,” it shows that God sometimes has to stop us in our tracks. Why? Because He knows that without rest, we cannot be restored. Our bodies grow weary, our emotions become fragile, and our spiritual vision gets clouded.

When we resist rest, we carry burdens we were never meant to bear alone. But when we surrender to God’s leading when we allow Him to “make us lie down” we not only restore our bodies and minds but also cultivate trust in His care.

In a world that glorifies busyness, God whispers, “Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10. Being still is not weakness it’s surrender. It’s choosing to stop striving, stop overworking, and stop trying to carry everything on your own. When we are still, we allow God the space to do what only He can do: restore our souls.

Think of it this way: you can’t pour from an empty cup. Rest is the way God fills you back up physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The Shepherd calls us to lie down, not because He wants us idle, but because He wants us whole.

So, when life demands more and you feel like you can’t stop, remember that restoration only comes through rest. God doesn’t just want you to keep going—He wants you to be renewed so that you can keep going well.

Prayer for today: Lord, thank You for calling me to stillness. Forgive me for the times I have filled my life with noise, work, and worry, leaving no room for You to restore me. Teach me to rest in Your presence and trust that while I pause, You are still at work. Restore my strength, renew my mind, and refresh my spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Tuesday, September 2 Rest for Restoration He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
