In desperation, they cried out to God for help—and He answered. But His choice of deliverer was surprising: Ehud, a seemingly insignificant man in the eyes of his people. Yet, God used him in an extraordinary way.

Ehud was left-handed, and that detail isn’t just trivia—it was central to the plan. In those times, being left-handed was rare and often seen as a weakness or disadvantage. Most soldiers were right-handed and wore their swords on their left side. So, when Ehud approached the king with a “secret message,” the guards only checked his left side, assuming he was right-handed. His sword, hidden on the opposite side, went unnoticed.

That “secret message” Ehud delivered was not words—but a swift and deadly strike to Eglon’s belly, ending the reign of oppression. God used what others saw as a limitation to create an opening for deliverance.

This story reminds us that God can use what the world considers weaknesses—disabilities, disadvantages, or disqualifications—for His glory. Ehud’s left-handedness was not a liability, but the very thing God used to gain the upper hand.

Maybe you feel like Ehud—overlooked, underestimated, or undervalued. Perhaps your beginning in life wasn’t ideal. You might have been called an “accident,” neglected, or never nurtured as God intended. Even now, you may feel weighed down by discouragement or defeat. But hear this: God sees you. God knows you. And God can still use you. What others see as a flaw, God can turn into a feature of your calling.

Prayer for today: Dear Lord, thank You for seeing the best in me when all I can see is nothing. Help me to see me, the way that You see me so that I an encouraged on this journey. Holy Spirit guide me in the path that I should take. In Jesus’ name.
