To show compassion is to step outside of ourselves and love someone right where they are, especially in their weakness. To live compassionately means keeping our hearts postured toward grace, ready to extend love to those who need it most.

Matthew 9:36 tells us, “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Jesus didn’t just look at people, He looked into them. He saw beneath the surface. He noticed their pain, their fear, their silent battles. And that’s where compassion begins—with a choice to see others the way God sees them.

What if, instead of reacting to someone’s short temper or rough attitude, we paused and asked: What might they be carrying today? What’s behind that reaction? Compassion doesn’t excuse behavior, but it helps us respond with gentleness instead of judgment. When we respond with compassion, we offer comfort that quietly says: I see you. You matter. And God loves you.

Prayer for today: God of Love, thank you for coming to me to show me Your love. Help me now to show this same love to others as I represent you.
