It may seem straightforward, but it’s actually one of the most challenging and radical teachings He offers. Love, as Jesus defines it, is not just a feeling or an emotion—it’s a decision, an action, and a commitment. It’s the kind of love that goes beyond comfort and convenience, the love that sacrifices, forgives, and serves.

In the context of John 15, Jesus has just spoken about the relationship He desires to have with His followers—one where we remain connected to Him like branches to the vine. He calls us friends, not servants, and shares His heart with us. His love for us is deep, unconditional, and transformative. And now, He invites us to reflect that same love toward one another.

But why does Jesus emphasize love so much? It’s because love is the ultimate expression of God’s character and presence in the world. Jesus knew that our love for one another would be a testimony to the world of His love for us.

This love is not limited to those who are easy to love—Jesus calls us to love even those who are difficult, who may have hurt us, or who don’t seem to deserve it. In loving others, we follow Christ’s example, who gave His life for us while we were still sinners. When we love one another as He has loved us, we reflect His nature to those around us. Love becomes a witness, a living example of God’s Kingdom on earth.

Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me with an everlasting love. Help me to love others as You have loved me—sacrificially, selflessly, and unconditionally. Fill my heart with Your love so that I can reflect it in all my relationships. Teach me to love even when it’s difficult, and to be a witness of Your grace and mercy in the world. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Wednesday, February 26 Abiding in The Vine: The Command to Love One Another These things I command you, that you love one another.
