He says “He who abides in Me” or as it is written in the New Living Translation “Those who remain in me”. Here Jesus uses the imagery of a vine and branches, a relationship that speaks to both dependence and unity. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit unless it is connected to the vine, we too can do nothing of lasting value apart from remaining in Christ.

The fruit that Jesus speaks of is not just physical or outward success. It is the evidence of a life transformed by His presence. In Galatians 5:22-23, the apostle Paul outlines the “fruit of the Spirit” that begins to manifest in our lives when we remain connected to Jesus: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are not characteristics we can manufacture on our own—they are the natural result of abiding in Christ.

Jesus promises that when we remain in Him, we will bear much fruit. This fruit is the evidence of a life transformed by His presence. Consider what kind of fruit God is calling you to bear today.

Prayer for today: Lord, thank You for the promise of fruitfulness when I remain in You.
