For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. John 15:4

As we come to the close of our 21 days of fasting and prayer, I want to encourage you to stay connected—not just for this season, but as a continual pursuit in your walk with Christ.

In John 15, Jesus offers us a powerful and intimate teaching, using the metaphor of the vine and the branches to describe our relationship with Him. He says, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.” (John 15:4). This moment is part of the “Upper Room Discourse,” a precious time when Jesus shares His heart with His disciples just before His arrest and crucifixion. It is a moment of deep intimacy, where Jesus is preparing them (and us) for the life He desires for us to live.

While the 21 days of fasting and prayer may have felt like a spiritual sprint, the truth is that our spiritual journey is a lifelong marathon. The habits we’ve cultivated during this time—prayer, devotion, and seeking God’s presence—are not meant to fade once the fast ends. Jesus teaches us here that staying connected to Him is essential for producing lasting fruit. It’s not about a one-time burst of intensity, but about remaining in Him day by day.

Let this be a reminder: the 21 days was just the beginning. We are called to live in this connection every day. The challenges and distractions of life will come, but the invitation of Jesus to remain in Him remains. So, as we close this special season, let us commit to not just what we’ve experienced, but to what God wants to do through us in the days to come. May we continue to abide in Him, trusting that He will empower us to bear much fruit for His glory.

Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the 21 days of fasting and prayer that have deepened our connection with You. We are grateful for the strength, renewal, peace and insight You’ve given us during this time. We trust that You are with us, empowering us to live out Your will. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Monday, February 3 Abiding in the Vine: Staying Connected After the Fast Remain in me, and I will remain in you.
