Horatio Spafford wrote this hymn after experiencing the tragic loss of his four daughters in a shipwreck. Despite his grief, Spafford penned words that express a deep sense of peace and trust in God: “When peace like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.”

Singing this hymn is a powerful act of faith, declaring that no matter what circumstances we face, we can find peace in God’s presence. It reminds us to anchor our souls in the Rock of our salvation, trusting that He will sustain us through every storm. Let “It Is Well with My Soul” be a reminder of the steadfast peace that God offers us.

I challenge you to reach out to someone who is going through a difficult time and share the message of “It Is Well with My Soul.” Offer your support and pray with them for God’s peace.

Prayer for today: Loving Father, in times of joy and in times of sorrow, help us to find our peace in You. As we sing “It Is Well with My Soul,” may we be reminded of Your faithfulness and the comfort that comes from trusting in Your promises. Fill us with Your peace, and let our souls be well in Your presence.
