Is this a matter of thinking about Jesus for a few minutes every morning? Should we set aside a set time, thirty minutes for example of devotion? If I’m honest, and I look at my own life, it’s a combination of all the above. Sure, I think about Jesus throughout the day. Then there are other times I need to stop and focus, setting a set time to just read, pray and praise. Colossians 3:1–2 seems to be asking for something a bit more comprehensive and engaging.

I think athletes get this more than the average person does. Athletes have an end in mind and everything they do, from food to practice is done with the end of winning in mind. Likewise the follower of Christ should do everything with heaven in mind.

When the Holy Spirit calls you to “set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God,” and to “set your minds on things above, not on earthly things,” He’s not just asking us for morning prayers.
