What does this mean – ‘in My name?’ We’ve been talking about this all week, praying in the name of Jesus. When we pray, we often include ‘in the name of Jesus’ at the end, because we feel this verse encourages us to do so. But it is important for us to understand what it means to add this phrase to the end of a prayer and not see it solely as a formula for success.

The Apostle Paul says, ‘I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me’ (Galatians 2:20). Our old sinful nature has been put to death on the cross of Calvary. We’ve been born again and are now living with a new nature, a spirit filled nature of Christ. ‘If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away, behold, the new has come’ (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Because we are a new creation that means this new nature has new needs and a new appetite. We must live in this ‘newness of life,’ not as the old body, but as the new, born again body, by the Spirit of God. We now share in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit and He will guide us into the truth of God. Let’s stay clear therefore, of everything that would defile the Spirit, for the Holy Spirit must remain Holy, as we seek to live in the righteousness of God.

Thursday, June 17 Remain with Jesus If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
