But there is biblical truth in this phrase. Isaiah 7:4 reads “be careful, keep calm”. Even earlier, Moses had told the Israelites by the Red Sea “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still. … The LORD Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Exodus 14:13-14. Those words continue to ring truth for us today, keep calm and trust in God.

According to Webster, the word “calm” means “without rough motion; not windy or stormy; free from disturbance; tranquil; serene.” I discovered the word “calm” was originally a weather word. It comes from a Latin term meaning “hot.” It was used to describe the stillness of a dry and windless day. Consider the calmness when describing a lake undisturbed. Likewise, the enemy may try to invade personal space creating ripples in the pond, stirring up chaos and causing fear. We may have battles on multiple fronts, we may live in turbulent times; but we can fix our thoughts on Jesus, claim our minds in His perfect peace, and persevere.

We can keep calm and be kind. We can keep calm and remain compassionate. We can keep calm and be constructive. We can keep calm and stay challenged.

Continue to trust the Lord and hold steadfast to His unchanging hands. Keep calm and don’t be afraid. Carry on and rely on God to fight for you. Remaining calm is possible because of God’s everlasting promises.

Friday, May 21 Keep Calm Say to him, ‘Be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid.
